Da Lat motorbike rental: what documents do you need?

Renting a motorbike makes sense if you have a valid license, feel comfortable riding on hills, and want to explore Da Lat at your own pace. If you're new to motorbikes, traveling with young children, or unfamiliar with steep mountain roads, a car or an Easy Rider tour with an experienced driver is a better choice.

Picking up a rental motorbike at 8 AM doesn't necessarily mean you can return it at 8 AM the next day for a single day's rental fee. Some shops charge by fixed daytime hours, others allow overnight rentals, and some charge extra for late returns. Before renting a motorbike in Da Lat, check three things: whether your license covers the bike, how much you'll pay in total, and whether the brakes and tires are in good enough condition for the city's steep roads.

Is renting a motorbike in Da Lat a good idea?

Renting a motorbike in Da Lat makes the most sense when you're staying for at least two days, have the appropriate driving license, and plan to visit several places in one day.

You won't need to arrange transportation between every stop. It's also easier to change your itinerary, spend longer at a café, or stop at a viewpoint without worrying about a pickup time.

But Da Lat isn't an ideal place to learn how to ride a motorbike.

Even around the city center, you'll encounter short but steep hills, intersections on slopes, and narrow lanes with limited visibility. Outside town, the roads become longer and more winding, with trucks, buses, and occasional fog.

Prenn Pass is wide and well paved, but motorbikes share it with cars and vans.

Renting a motorbike is a reasonable choice if you:

  • Already ride regularly and know how to handle uphill starts, downhill braking, and turns on slopes.
  • Have a valid driving license for the engine size or power of the rental motorbike.
  • Are traveling alone or with one passenger and carrying little luggage.
  • Want to explore several locations around the city without arranging a driver.
  • Can change your plans when rain or heavy fog makes riding unsafe.

Consider another way to travel if you:

  • Have only recently learned to ride or have little experience on hills.
  • Have never ridden a manual motorbike or automatic scooter on steep roads.
  • Have just arrived after an overnight bus journey and haven't slept properly.
  • Are traveling with young children or large suitcases.
  • Don't have the correct motorcycle license.
  • Plan to ride mountain passes at night or during poor weather.

For example, many travelers arrive at Da Lat Interprovincial Bus Station on To Hien Thanh Street early in the morning. Picking up a motorbike immediately might seem convenient, but your concentration and reaction time may be affected after a night on the road.

A better plan is to reach your accommodation, leave your luggage, have breakfast, and collect the bike around 8-9 AM, when there's enough daylight to inspect it properly.

If you're uncomfortable with steep roads, booking an Easy Rider trip with an experienced local driver or using a car is more sensible.

How much does it cost to rent a motorbike in Da Lat in 2026?

In 2026, a standard motorbike or automatic scooter in Da Lat generally costs around 80,000-160,000 VND per day. Manual-clutch motorcycles, larger-engine models, and premium scooters can cost more.

The following are 2026 prices from rental providers and booking platforms.

Rental provider and motorbikePrice in 2026

Hoa Dalat Travel - Manual-clutch motorcycleFrom 200,000 VND/day
DALATHUB - VinFast Klara, Yadea electric bikes120,000-180,000 VND/day

These are advertised or starting prices, not guaranteed quotes for every rental date. Some offers depend on the minimum rental period, availability, pickup time, and specific vehicle model.

Manual and semi-automatic motorbikes: cheaper and practical for experienced riders

Honda Wave, Honda Blade, and Yamaha Sirius are common rental models.

For riders who understand gear selection, these bikes provide useful engine braking on downhill sections. Choosing an appropriate gear can help control speed without relying continuously on the brakes.

That doesn't automatically make a manual or semi-automatic bike safer than a scooter. Worn tires, poor brakes, and unfamiliar gear changes are all risks.

If you regularly ride a Honda Wave at home, renting a familiar model is usually better than switching to a different type of motorcycle simply because it looks more appealing.

Automatic scooters: convenient for city trips

Honda Vision, Lead, and Air Blade models are popular with travelers who already know how to ride automatic scooters.

The Vision is compact and relatively easy to maneuver in tight parking areas. The Lead has generous under-seat storage for rain gear and small belongings. The Air Blade suits riders who prefer its seating position and handling.

On long descents, scooter riders need to control their speed early and use the brakes correctly. Don't let the bike accelerate downhill and then brake sharply just before a corner.

Also check the engine size. Some versions of the Honda Air Blade, Honda Vario, and SH have engines larger than 125cc. They may not be covered by a Vietnamese A1 license issued under the rules introduced in 2025.

Manual-clutch motorcycles: only for riders who already know how to use them

Models such as the Yamaha Exciter and Honda Winner X are suitable for people familiar with clutch control, downshifting, and starting on hills.

In Da Lat, you may need to stop halfway up a slope because of traffic or a red light. An inexperienced clutch rider can easily stall, roll backward, or lose balance.

A short holiday isn't the right time to learn an unfamiliar motorcycle.

What counts as one rental day?

Ask this before negotiating the price.

At Minh Khang, a rental shop at 5A Thu Khoa Huan Street, a daytime rental runs from 6 AM to 7:30 PM. The shop also allows overnight use under certain multi-day rental arrangements.

Providers listed on Vexere have their own pickup, return, and late-fee policies. Some may charge for an additional half-day or full day if you return a bike after the agreed time.

Before paying, confirm the following:

  • If I collect the bike at 8 AM today and return it at 8 AM tomorrow, how many rental days will I be charged?
  • Is there an extra fee for returning it at 8 PM?
  • Can I keep the motorbike overnight?
  • Is there a discount for renting for three days?
  • Does the price include delivery, helmets, raincoats, and fuel?

What documents do you need to rent a motorbike in Da Lat?

For Vietnamese travelers, the main documents to prepare are identification and a driving license appropriate for the motorcycle.

Rental shops may have different identity checks and deposit requirements. There's no single commercial rental procedure followed by every provider in Da Lat.

Documents for Vietnamese travelers

You will generally need:

  1. Citizen ID card or identity card: Used to verify your identity and prepare the rental agreement.
  2. Valid motorcycle driving license: Must cover the rental bike's engine capacity or motor power.
  3. Rental payment and any required security deposit: The amount varies by provider and vehicle.
  4. Contact information: Usually your phone number, accommodation, and pickup or return address.

Some rental businesses may accept identity verification through VNeID or other arrangements. However, don't assume a photograph of your ID on your phone will be accepted everywhere.

When riding on public roads, you must also comply with the rules on driving licenses, vehicle registration, and compulsory insurance under Vietnam's Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety and other applicable regulations.

Documents required to rent a motorbike and documents required to ride it legally are not necessarily the same.

Documents for foreign travelers

Foreign visitors should prepare their passport, national driving license, and a recognized International Driving Permit if they plan to use one.

An International Driving Permit issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention must be used together with a valid national driving license covering the relevant vehicle category.

The important point is that your driving entitlement must include motorcycles of the appropriate category.

Having a car driving license doesn't automatically authorize you to ride a 110cc or 125cc motorbike.

Vietnam may also recognize certain foreign driving licenses under applicable international treaties or agreements, so requirements depend on the country that issued your license.

Be particularly careful about the difference between International Driving Permits issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention and those issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention.

For example, a Singapore-issued International Driving Permit based on the 1949 Convention is not recognized by Vietnam under its 1968 Convention arrangements.

A rental shop agreeing to give you a bike doesn't mean you are legally authorized to ride it.

Do you need a motorcycle license to rent a motorbike in Da Lat?

Yes, for ordinary motorcycles such as the Honda Wave 110cc, Vision 110cc, Lead 125cc, and Air Blade 125cc, you need an appropriate motorcycle driving license.

There are exceptions for vehicles legally classified as mopeds, including certain 50cc petrol vehicles and low-powered electric bikes.

What motorcycles can an A1 license cover?

Vietnam introduced new motorcycle license classifications on January 1, 2025.

Under the current rules:

  • A newly issued A1 license covers two-wheeled motorcycles with an engine capacity of up to 125cc or electric motor power of up to 11kW.
  • A Class A license covers two-wheeled motorcycles above 125cc or electric motorcycles with power above 11kW. It also covers the vehicles included in Class A1.

Before renting a Honda Vario 160, SH 160, or another larger-engine motorcycle, check the exact entitlement of your license.

Can you ride a 50cc motorbike without a license?

You may ride a legally classified moped without a motorcycle driving license if you meet the applicable age, health, and riding requirements.

Under Vietnamese law, a moped must have a design speed of no more than 50km/h and either a combustion engine of no more than 50cc or an electric motor with power of no more than 4kW.

People aged 16 and above may operate mopeds without holding a motorcycle driving license.

However, a 50cc bike isn't ideal for every road around Da Lat.

A small motorbike carrying two people and luggage may struggle on steep climbs. The rider still needs to manage downhill speed, maintain distance, and control the vehicle when stopping on a slope.

If you've never ridden a motorbike before, don't treat a 50cc rental as an easy way to learn in Da Lat.

Do you need to pay a deposit when renting a motorbike?

Some rental shops don't require a deposit when booking, while others collect a security deposit at pickup or ask to retain a document under their rental terms.

For example, DALA Tourist takes a security deposit of approximately 1-2 million VND.

On Vexere, some rental offers from the Ánh provider allow an arrangement involving document retention or a deposit starting from 3 million VND per bike. Certain offers from Cu Lì provide a 5 million VND cash-deposit alternative to leaving a document.

These are provider-specific terms, not standard deposits for all motorbike rentals in Da Lat.

There are two different payments to understand.

A booking deposit may be collected when you reserve the vehicle before your travel date.

A security deposit is held during the rental period and may be refunded after the vehicle has been returned and the rental conditions have been satisfied.

A listing that says "no advance deposit" doesn't necessarily mean there will be no security deposit or identity-verification requirement at pickup.

Should you leave your passport or ID card with the shop?

It's better to choose a provider that can verify your identity, prepare a rental agreement, and accept a reasonable security deposit instead of keeping your original identification documents.

This is especially important for international visitors, who may need their passports for accommodation registration or other purposes.

For cash deposits, keep a receipt or written message confirming the amount, refund conditions, and possible deductions.

Can you get a motorbike delivered to your hotel in Da Lat?

Yes. Many motorbike rental services in Da Lat can deliver a bike to your hotel, homestay, or bus station.

However, free-delivery areas and operating hours differ between providers.

Picking up a motorbike at Da Lat Bus Station

Da Lat Interprovincial Bus Station is located at 1 To Hien Thanh Street, south of the city center.

On Vexere, some providers offer motorcycle delivery and collection at this station.

Certain rental partners hand over and collect bikes from 5 AM to 11 PM, while others use different schedules.

When making a booking, provide your bus company's name, expected arrival time, and an exact meeting point.

Simply writing "Phuong Trang bus station" may not be enough. The station has several vehicle access and pickup areas, so a specific location will save time.

If your bus arrives at 4 AM, consider resting before collecting a motorbike rather than heading straight onto unfamiliar hills in the dark.

Motorbike delivery to hotels and homestays

Hotel delivery is convenient if you're carrying luggage or want to check in before starting your sightseeing.

DALA Tourist delivers motorbikes free of charge within a 5km radius of central Da Lat.

Several Vexere rental offers also include delivery services, although the exact location coverage and potential fees vary by provider.

Send your accommodation address and a map pin when booking.

If your homestay is down a narrow or steep lane, ask whether the delivery driver can reach the entrance or whether you should meet on a nearby main road.

Is renting directly from your hotel a good idea?

Ask your hotel reception first. Many hotels have rental motorbikes or work with local suppliers.

It's convenient because you can collect and return the vehicle at your accommodation. Reception may also help contact the rental company if something goes wrong.

The downside is limited vehicle availability, particularly on weekends and public holidays.

If the only bike left has poor brakes or worn tires, don't accept it just because finding another shop would take extra time.

Inspect the actual motorbike, not just the hotel's reviews.

Should you rent a manual bike, automatic scooter, or electric motorbike?

The best choice depends on your driving license, experience, and planned route.

Your travel needsMotorbike to considerWhat to check
Solo travel, familiar with gearsWave, Sirius, BladeBrakes, gears, tires, hill performance
Two people exploring the cityVision, LeadLoad capacity, brakes, engine condition
Prefer automatic transmission and storageAir Blade, LeadEngine version and license entitlement
Experienced manual-clutch riderExciter, Winner XLicense category, clutch, tires, brakes
Short journeys with confirmed chargingElectric motorbikeMotor power, battery, range, charging
No motorcycle driving licenseLegally classified 50cc or low-powered electric mopedMinimum age and riding competence

Don't automatically choose a larger-engine motorbike because you're worried about hills.

A more powerful engine won't compensate for weak braking skills, poor cornering technique, or an unfamiliar vehicle.

Can you rent an electric motorbike in Da Lat?

Yes. Electric motorbike rental services operate in Da Lat, including providers offering VinFast and Yadea models.

At DALATHUB, electric scooters rent for 120,000-180,000 VND per day in 2026.

That range isn't a fixed price for every vehicle. Confirm the specific model and rental conditions before booking.

Do electric motorbikes require a driving license in Vietnam?

Not all electric motorbikes are license-exempt.

Under Vietnam's legal vehicle classifications:

  • An electric vehicle classified as a moped, with a design speed of no more than 50km/h and motor power of no more than 4kW, does not require a motorcycle driving license for an otherwise eligible rider.
  • Electric motorcycles with motor power above 4kW and up to 11kW fall within the scope of a newly issued A1 license.
  • Electric motorcycles with motor power above 11kW fall within Class A.

Older Vietnamese driving licenses may have different transitional entitlements.

Don't rely on the vehicle's appearance or commercial model name to determine whether a license is required. Check its official classification, motor power, and design speed.

Are electric motorbikes suitable for Da Lat's hills?

Electric motorbikes run quietly and produce no tailpipe emissions. However, Da Lat's hills make battery planning more important.

Actual range depends on the model, battery condition, passenger weight, riding speed, and elevation changes.

A manufacturer's maximum advertised range isn't a guarantee of how far you can ride with two people on steep mountain roads.

Ask the rental provider:

  1. What battery percentage will the bike have at pickup?
  2. Is the available charge sufficient for my planned route and return journey?
  3. Is a charger included, and where can I charge the bike?
  4. What happens if the battery runs out away from the city?
  5. Must I return the vehicle with a minimum battery level?
  6. Does the motor power match my driving license?

An electric motorbike is more practical for short trips around the city when charging is arranged in advance.

Avoid planning a long countryside ride and hoping you'll find somewhere to charge along the way.

How to inspect a rental motorbike before riding

Spend 10-15 minutes inspecting the vehicle before accepting it.

A freshly washed motorcycle isn't necessarily mechanically sound. Brakes, tires, lights, and handling matter much more than appearance.

  1. Step 1

    Check both brakes

Start with the front and rear brakes.

Squeeze each brake lever to check how it feels and whether its movement seems normal. Then, in a safe area, ride at a very low speed and test the brakes separately before applying them together gently.

Don't perform sudden braking tests in traffic.

If the brakes feel weak, the levers travel unusually far, or the bike makes worrying noises, ask for a different vehicle.

Don't accept an explanation that the brakes will improve after riding for a while.

  2. Step 2

    Inspect the tires

Look at the tread, tire sidewalls, and contact surfaces.

Worn tread, cracking, bulges, or obvious damage are reasons to reject the bike.

Ask whether the tire pressures are appropriate for your intended passenger and luggage load.

A road that is dry in the morning may become wet after an afternoon shower. Good tire grip is essential in Da Lat.

  3. Step 3

Test the lights, indicators, horn, and mirrors

Switch on the low and high beams. Check the rear light, brake light, and both turn signals.

Test the horn and adjust the mirrors so you can clearly see behind you.

Don't accept a bike with missing mirrors or broken lights because you only plan to ride during the day.

Fog and rain can reduce visibility even in daylight.

  4. Step 4

Start the engine and take a short test ride

For petrol motorbikes, listen to the engine during startup and while idling. Pay attention to unusual sounds or unexpected stalling.

For semi-automatic and manual motorcycles, check gear changes in a suitable area.

For scooters, check how smoothly the bike accelerates from a standstill, how it behaves at low speeds, and how predictably it slows down.

During a short test ride, notice whether the handlebars pull to one side or the vehicle vibrates unusually.

If you aren't comfortable with the bike, don't take it onto a steep main road.

  5. Step 5

    Check the motorbike documents

Confirm that the license plate matches the vehicle registration details.

Check the validity of the compulsory civil liability insurance certificate and ask which documents you will receive for use while riding.

Some shops may provide a photograph or photocopy of the registration. Don't assume an ordinary photo automatically replaces legally accepted documentation during a traffic check.

Clarify the documentation arrangements before leaving.

  6. Step 6

Record a video of the entire motorbike

Before riding away, use your phone to record a complete walkaround video.

Make sure the license plate and existing damage are clearly visible.

    Pay attention to:

    • Scratches on the front panel, bodywork, and exhaust.
    • Mirrors, brake levers, and handlebars.
    • Wheels, rims, and tires.
    • Lights, dashboard, and license plate.
    • Fuel level or battery percentage.

Ask the rental provider to acknowledge any existing scratches in the handover form or a written message.

When returning the bike, compare its condition with the original recording.

This simple step can help prevent disagreements about damage that was already there.

What roads should you be careful on in Da Lat?

The main challenge of riding around Da Lat isn't the distance between attractions. It's the combination of steep roads, sharp bends, and changing weather.

A journey of only a few kilometers can involve several climbs, descents, traffic lights, and turns on sloping intersections.

Steep streets in central Da Lat

The areas around Da Lat Market, Nguyen Van Troi Street, Phan Dinh Phung Street, and connecting residential lanes have numerous slopes.

Photo: Khánh Hmoong (ℍmoong)
Le Dai Hanh Street climbs toward the post office tower, one of many slopes right in the center.

If you're visiting for the first time, don't automatically follow the shortest alley suggested by a navigation app.

A route that saves three minutes might include a steep descent or an awkward uphill turn.

When stopping on a hill, leave enough space between your bike and the vehicle in front. Other vehicles may roll slightly backward or stop unexpectedly.

If a slope feels too difficult, find a safe place to stop and reconsider your route.

Roads toward Cau Dat, Ta Nung, and Tuyen Lam Lake

The road toward Cau Dat includes long stretches through higher-elevation areas where fog can affect visibility, particularly in the early morning.

The Cau Dat tea hill outside Da Lat wrapped in morning fog, a line of sparse trees fading into the mist along the slope
Photo: Khánh Hmoong (ℍmoong)
Morning fog over the Cau Dat tea hills, the kind of visibility you may meet on the way out there.

The Ta Nung route has winding mountain sections. Riders who are comfortable in city traffic but have no experience on mountain roads shouldn't make this their first outing on an unfamiliar rental bike.

Roads around Tuyen Lam Lake are paved in many places but still include slopes, bends, and larger vehicles.

A navigation app showing that a route is accessible by motorcycle doesn't tell you whether it's suitable for your experience or the day's weather.

Riding downhill on a manual or semi-automatic motorbike

Reduce speed before starting a descent and choose an appropriate gear.

Use engine braking and controlled braking together.

Don't shift into an excessively low gear while traveling quickly, as this can cause abrupt engine braking. Never switch off the engine or coast downhill without proper control.

On longer descents, manage your speed early rather than allowing the bike to accelerate and then braking hard.

Riding downhill on an automatic scooter

Automatic scooters have different transmission behavior from manual motorcycles.

Understand how your rental scooter responds when you release the throttle and apply the brakes.

Avoid grabbing one brake suddenly while cornering, especially on wet pavement.

Rain and fog

During Da Lat's rainy season, schedule longer outdoor rides for the morning when conditions allow, and check the forecast before leaving.

If heavy rain starts, find a safe place to stop rather than trying to finish the itinerary at all costs.

Dense fog is another good reason to change plans. Don't follow the vehicle ahead too closely just to keep it in sight.

Wear a properly fitted helmet with the chin strap secured, shoes with good grip, and a raincoat that won't interfere with the wheels or controls.

What time should you collect your motorbike, and where should you ride first?

If you're an experienced motorbike rider but new to Da Lat, use your first morning to get familiar with the vehicle and the streets.

Here's a simple schedule.

  1. 8:00-8:30 AM

    Collect and check the bike

Collect the motorbike at your accommodation. Check the brakes, tires, lights, documents, and existing damage. Record the handover video.

  2. 8:30-9:00 AM

    Short ride near your hotel

Take a short ride on an easy road near your hotel. Get used to the throttle, brakes, and turning behavior.

  3. 9:00-10:30 AM

    Around Xuan Huong Lake

Explore the area around Xuan Huong Lake using roads where motorcycle access is permitted. Observe traffic patterns and locate suitable parking areas.

  4. After 10:30 AM

    Farther out once comfortable

Continue farther out only if you feel comfortable with the bike and the weather and road conditions are suitable.

This isn't a sightseeing itinerary you need to follow exactly.

If you find yourself struggling to manage an ordinary hill in the city, change your transportation plan instead of riding into the countryside.

There's no need to reach Cau Dat, Ta Nung, or a remote sunrise viewpoint on your first morning.

How much does a two-day motorbike rental in Da Lat cost?

For a simple budget example, use DALA Tourist's 2026 prices.

MotorbikeDaily priceTwo-day calculation
Honda Wave Alpha80,000 VND160,000 VND
Honda Vision120,000 VND240,000 VND
Honda Lead120,000 VND240,000 VND
Honda Air Blade150,000 VND300,000 VND

These calculations assume two full rental units at the listed daily price, without additional charges.

Your actual payment depends on the rental company's definition of a day and your agreed pickup and return times.

You should also budget for petrol, parking, delivery outside the free service area if applicable, and any other agreed fees.

A refundable security deposit isn't part of the final rental cost, but you'll still need enough money available when collecting the bike.

For a two-day trip mostly around central Da Lat, a standard Honda Wave, Vision, or similar motorcycle is usually sufficient for someone who knows how to ride it.

There's little reason to rent a larger motorcycle just for short trips between city attractions.

Where can you rent a motorbike in Da Lat?

You can rent through a dedicated motorbike shop, an online booking platform, or your accommodation.

The best option depends on whether you prioritize price comparison, delivery convenience, or having someone nearby to contact if the bike develops a problem.

Booking through Vexere

Several providers, including Ánh, Anh Hải, Đức Toàn, and Cu Lì

Vexere lists several motorbike rental providers in Da Lat, including Ánh, Anh Hải, Đức Toàn, and Cu Lì.

The platform allows travelers to compare vehicle categories, starting prices, delivery arrangements, and some rental conditions before booking.

However, each provider has its own policies.

Read the conditions for your exact offer, especially the booking payment, security deposit, pickup location, and any restrictions on where the bike may be taken.

Renting through DALA Tourist

Free delivery within 5km of the city center

DALA Tourist rents Honda Wave, Dream, Vision, Lead, Air Blade, and SH models, with free delivery within a 5km radius of the city center.

Prices in 2026 range from 80,000 VND per day for a Wave Alpha to 180,000 VND per day for certain SH Mode or SH 125i rentals.

Its contact number is 0357 970 170.

Before booking, confirm the exact model available, required deposit, and total price for your chosen dates.

Renting from your hotel

Easiest for a one- or two-day stay

For a one- or two-day stay, asking your hotel's reception is often the easiest first step.

You may be able to inspect the bike in the hotel parking area and return it without traveling to a separate shop.

But clarify who is actually providing the rental.

Is the contract with the hotel or an outside motorbike company? Who should you call if the vehicle breaks down? Who can authorize a replacement or refund?

Don't simply accept the keys and transfer payment without agreeing on the rental conditions.

What should you do if your rental motorbike breaks down?

Save the rental company's emergency or support number before leaving the pickup point.

If your bike develops a problem, move to a safe stopping area away from traffic, blind bends, and steep sections whenever possible.

Switch off the engine when appropriate and contact the rental company.

Send your location along with photographs or a short video of the problem.

For something like a punctured tire, ask whether you're allowed to visit a nearby repair shop or need to use a repair service approved by the rental provider.

Keep receipts and photographs if you pay for repairs.

If the breakdown results from a mechanical fault unrelated to your use, the replacement process and rental charges should be handled according to your agreed terms.

In the event of a collision, prioritize safety, assist anyone affected, and follow applicable reporting and legal obligations.

Don't arrange expensive repairs or replacement parts without informing the rental provider.

How to return your rental motorbike without unexpected charges

About 30 minutes before the agreed return time, inspect the motorcycle again.

Check the fuel or battery level, visible scratches, mirrors, and any accessories provided with the bike.

If your rental agreement requires you to return the motorcycle with the same fuel level, follow that condition.

Don't automatically fill the tank completely, because different shops have different policies.

When handing the bike back, inspect it together with the rental representative. Compare its condition with the original handover video.

Confirm the final rental fee, any additional charges, the deposit refund, and the return of any documents held by the company.

Don't leave the keys at reception or with an unauthorized person unless the rental provider has explicitly agreed.

Before booking, send the rental provider your pickup and return dates and times, preferred motorbike model, license category, and delivery address. Ask for the total price and security deposit in writing. At pickup, inspect the brakes and tires, take a short test ride in a safe area, and record the bike's condition before accepting the keys.

FAQ

Do you need to leave your original passport or ID card when renting a motorbike in Da Lat?

Many shops require a passport, Vietnamese citizen ID card, or another accepted identity document for verification. Some only inspect the document, while others may request to hold it under their rental terms. It's better to ask whether the provider can verify your identity and accept a refundable cash deposit instead of retaining your original passport or ID.

Can foreigners rent a motorbike in Da Lat without a motorcycle license?

You may be able to rent a legally classified moped that doesn't require a motorcycle driving license, provided you meet the relevant age and operating requirements. Ordinary 110cc and 125cc motorcycles require appropriate driving entitlement. A shop's willingness to rent you a motorbike does not make riding it legal.

Is hotel delivery free when renting a motorbike in Da Lat?

It depends on the provider and delivery address. DALA Tourist offers free delivery within 5km of central Da Lat, while some Vexere-listed rental offers support delivery to hotels or bus stations. Always confirm charges for locations outside the free area or pickups outside standard operating hours.

Can you ride a rental electric motorbike from Da Lat to Cau Dat?

It depends on the vehicle model, battery condition, passenger weight, weather, and exact route. Don't rely solely on the manufacturer's maximum advertised range. If you cannot confirm sufficient battery capacity and a realistic charging or assistance arrangement, choose another vehicle for the journey.

Is a manual motorbike or automatic scooter better for Da Lat?

If you're already comfortable riding a Honda Wave or Yamaha Sirius, renting a familiar semi-automatic bike is a practical choice. Riders experienced with scooters may prefer a Honda Vision, Lead, or appropriately licensed Air Blade. On Da Lat's hills, the rider's ability, brake condition, and tire grip matter more than whether the vehicle is manual or automatic.
