Da Nang to Da Lat: choose the right flight or bus for your time and budget
A direct flight from Da Nang to Lien Khuong takes just over an hour, while a sleeper bus takes 12-15 hours but costs far less and can pick you up in Hoi An. Which one fits depends on how many days you have in Da Lat and whether you can sleep on a bus.

Start by checking direct flights from Da Nang International Airport (DAD) to Lien Khuong Airport (DLI), then compare them with overnight sleeper buses arriving in Da Lat the following morning. A direct flight takes around 65-70 minutes, while a bus usually takes 12-15 hours. Staying in Hoi An? Some overnight buses pick up right there, so there's often no need to go back to Da Nang at all.

How far is Da Nang from Da Lat, and how long does it take?
The road distance from Da Nang to Da Lat is approximately 650-700 km (404-435 miles), depending on your departure point and the route taken. The Thanh Thuy bus route, for example, covers approximately 693 km, while another common estimate for the overland journey is around 654 km.
The direct air distance between the two airports is much shorter, approximately 476-478 km (296-297 miles), but that's the distance flown, not driven.
It's also worth separating the time spent on a plane or bus from the total journey between your accommodations.
| Transport | Travel time | Estimated cost in 2026 | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct flight | 65-70 minutes in the air; around 4-5 hours door to door | Varies by date; examples around VND 1.31-1.68 million one way | Short trips, families, travelers who value time |
| Sleeper bus | Usually 12-15 hours, sometimes longer | FUTA from VND 480,000; Thanh Thuy from VND 500,000 | Budget travelers, solo travelers, couples |
| Train to Nha Trang + bus | Around 14-18 hours or longer, depending on connections | Often from approximately VND 650,000 combined | Travelers who want a railway experience or a stop in Nha Trang |
| Self-drive car | Around 12-15 hours or longer with breaks | Fuel, tolls, and other driving expenses | Groups with experienced drivers |
Times and prices in this guide are 2026 figures, so check them again when you book. They are examples, not fixed fares for every travel date.
Quick pick: Only two or three days in Da Lat? Fly. Travelers with more time who can sleep reasonably well on a bus and want to save money are better off on a sleeper bus. The train only makes sense for those who actually want to stop in Nha Trang along the way.
Are there direct flights from Da Nang to Da Lat?
Yes. Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air operate direct flights between Da Nang and Da Lat, so a nonstop booking saves you a connection through Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi.
Articles saying you can't fly to Da Lat because Lien Khuong Airport is closed were written during that earlier shutdown.
Da Nang to Da Lat flight schedule in 2026
There are two direct services to compare:
| Airline | Flight | Departure from DAD | Arrival at DLI | Flight time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vietnam Airlines | VN1955 | 06:00 | 07:10 | 1 hr 10 min |
| Vietjet Air | VJ729 | 18:20 | 19:25 | 1 hr 5 min |
Treat the table as a reference schedule; both flights won't necessarily run at these times every day. Airlines may change schedules according to the season, day of the week, and operational requirements.
The morning flight gives you most of your first day in Da Lat, but a 06:00 departure means being at Da Nang Airport by approximately 04:00. That's manageable from a hotel in central Da Nang, but considerably less convenient from Hoi An.
The evening flight leaves time for lunch, checking out, and part of the afternoon in Da Nang before you go. On the other hand, you may not reach your Da Lat hotel until around 20:30-21:00, depending on baggage collection and your airport transfer.
How much are Da Nang to Da Lat flights?
Airfares vary significantly with travel dates, booking times, fare types, and baggage requirements.
For example, one-way fares on the two direct flights were around:
- Vietnam Airlines VN1955: approximately VND 1.31 million.
- Vietjet Air VJ729: approximately VND 1.68 million.
These are prices displayed on a booking site, and a third-party platform may charge a different final amount.
Vietjet also advertises lower promotional base fares on its website, though the total you pay can end up higher once checked baggage or additional services are added.
When comparing airlines, use the same travel date, passenger category, and baggage allowance. Look at the final payment amount rather than just the first price shown in search results.
A flight that appears a few hundred thousand dong cheaper may not remain cheaper once you add a 20 kg suitcase, seat selection, and other services.
How long does flying from Da Nang to Da Lat really take?
The flight itself lasts approximately 65-70 minutes, but the trip doesn't end when the aircraft lands.
A typical journey from a hotel in central Da Nang involves:
- Traveling from your hotel to Da Nang Airport, usually around 10-25 minutes depending on location and traffic.
- Arriving approximately 1.5-2 hours before departure for check-in and security.
- Flying for about 65-70 minutes.
- Leaving the aircraft, collecting baggage, and finding your airport transfer.
- Traveling from Lien Khuong Airport to central Da Lat, usually around 45-60 minutes.
Allow roughly 4-5 hours from your accommodation in Da Nang to central Da Lat, assuming your flight operates on time.
Vietnam Airlines states that domestic check-in counters open two hours before departure and close 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Turning up just before the counter closes is asking for trouble, particularly with a suitcase to check.
Getting from Lien Khuong Airport to Da Lat city center
Lien Khuong Airport is approximately 28-30 km from central Da Lat. You'll still have a fairly substantial road journey after landing.

There are two practical options.
Airport shuttle or shared bus
The airport bus costs around VND 40,000-50,000 per person. Check whether it's running when you land, where to board, and whether its timetable matches your flight, since not every arrival has a convenient bus.
Taxi or pre-booked private car
A car makes more sense with large suitcases, children, or other passengers, particularly in the evening.
Dalat Skybus charges from VND 250,000 for a private four-seat transfer during the day, VND 300,000 between 21:30 and midnight, and VND 400,000 between midnight and 05:00. These prices don't include VAT.
For three travelers sharing a four-seat car, the per-person cost is relatively reasonable. Solo travelers may want to look at a shared shuttle before booking a private transfer.
Ask the driver to drop you at the actual hotel entrance where possible, especially around Hoa Binh, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Phan Boi Chau, or Bui Thi Xuan streets. Da Lat has plenty of slopes, and pulling a heavy suitcase uphill is not the best way to start your visit.
Da Nang to Da Lat by sleeper bus: how long does it take?
The sleeper bus is the most practical option for travelers who want to save money without changing vehicles.
Most services travel south through Vietnam's coastal provinces before climbing toward the Central Highlands. Typical journey times range from 12 to 15 hours, although some services may take 16-17 hours because of pickup stops, road conditions, and the route used.
Afternoon and evening departures usually arrive in Da Lat the following morning, which leaves your last full day in Da Nang free for sightseeing before you head inland overnight.
Sleeping on a bus is nothing like sleeping in a hotel. You may wake up when the vehicle stops, takes sharp turns, or picks up additional passengers.

Sleeper bus operators from Da Nang to Da Lat
FUTA Bus Lines (Phuong Trang)
FUTA is worth checking if you prefer a major bus terminal and clearly defined departure and arrival points.
Example services:
| Departure from Da Nang | Estimated arrival in Da Lat | Displayed fare |
|---|---|---|
| 13:30 | 02:50 the next day | VND 480,000 |
| 16:30 | 05:50 the next day | VND 480,000 |
| 18:00 | 07:00 the next day | VND 480,000 |
Buses leave from Da Nang Central Bus Station and arrive at Da Lat Bus Station. Check the exact departure time, fare, and sleeper type for your travel date.
The 18:00 service is a sensible option for many tourists. You can check out around midday, leave your luggage at the hotel, have an early dinner, and reach the terminal before departure. Arriving in Da Lat at approximately 07:00 then leaves enough time for breakfast and luggage storage.
The service arriving at 02:50 is less convenient unless you've arranged somewhere to rest. Few hotels have a room ready in the middle of the night.
Thanh Thuy - Da Lat
Thanh Thuy operates services with a pickup office in the Truong Chinh Street area of Da Nang and drop-off points in Da Lat, including 296 Nguyen Tu Luc Street.
Example departures include:
| Departure | Estimated arrival | Vehicle |
|---|---|---|
| 15:30 | 05:30 the next day | 34-berth limousine sleeper |
| 17:00 | 06:00 the next day | 24-cabin limousine sleeper |
Fares start at approximately VND 500,000, depending on the service and sleeper type.
Thanh Thuy also advertises pickup points along its routes, but you must confirm that your chosen service actually stops at your selected location; not every departure provides hotel pickup.
Other cabin bus operators
Tan Kim Chi, An Phu Travel, Viet Lao, and Quang Dung VIP Limousine also sell tickets on the Da Nang-Da Lat route.
These services may cost more than standard sleeper buses: some options cost approximately VND 650,000 to VND 850,000, depending on the operator, vehicle, and boarding location.
Check the exact operator, cabin type, and total price before payment. Some booking platforms list each pickup point of the same bus as a separate result, so the choice can look bigger than it really is.
Standard sleeper bus or private cabin?
A 34-40-berth sleeper bus is suitable for solo travelers who want to keep costs down and don't require much privacy.
A 22-24-cabin limousine sleeper offers more separation from other passengers, often with curtains or partitions. A private cabin is still a berth inside a bus, though, without the space or comfort of a hotel room.
Travelers prone to motion sickness should pick a berth near the middle of the bus rather than the very back, and use motion-sickness medication only as directed or after appropriate medical advice. The final climb into the highlands has plenty of curves, even when the vehicle itself is comfortable.
Where do buses depart in Da Nang and arrive in Da Lat?
The pickup and drop-off points matter more than many travelers realize.
Possible Da Nang boarding locations include:
- Da Nang Central Bus Station.
- Thanh Thuy's office in the 221-223 Truong Chinh Street area.
- Individual bus offices or pickup points in Hai Chau, Thanh Khe, or Lien Chieu, depending on the company.
Common Da Lat drop-off locations include:
- Da Lat Interprovincial Bus Station, 1 To Hien Thanh Street.
- Thanh Thuy's office at 296 Nguyen Tu Luc Street.
- Operator-specific stops around Pham Ngu Lao, Mai Hac De, and other locations.
Two tickets labeled "Da Nang to Da Lat" may use completely different stations. Before paying, confirm the operator, full boarding address, required check-in time, arrival location, and whether a transfer service is included, rather than booking on the names of the two cities alone.
How to get from Hoi An to Da Lat
From Hoi An, there are two main options: take a direct sleeper bus or travel to Da Nang Airport and fly.
Hoi An doesn't have a commercial airport. Flying to Da Lat therefore requires a road transfer to Da Nang first.
Option 1: take a direct sleeper bus from Hoi An
It's often the simplest choice for anyone staying near Hoi An Ancient Town, Cam Chau, An Bang Beach, or nearby accommodation areas. Book a service with an actual pickup point in Hoi An and you avoid spending nearly an hour going back to Da Nang just to board a bus.
Some example services:
| Boarding location in Hoi An | Departure | Arrival location in Da Lat | Estimated arrival | Displayed fare |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nguyen Tat Thanh Street | 20:15 | Interprovincial Bus Station | 08:30 next day | VND 650,000 |
| Ton Duc Thang Street | 19:30 | Pham Ngu Lao Street | 08:00 next day | VND 650,000 |
| Nguyen Tat Thanh Street | 21:30 | Mai Hac De Street | 09:30 next day | VND 850,000 |
These are fares for individual services and don't include the extra fee charged by third-party booking sites.
Thanh Thuy and Tan Kim Chi also sell tickets for travelers departing from the Hoi An area. For example, Thanh Thuy fares start at approximately VND 520,000 on this route.
Ask the company for the complete boarding address or a map pin. Guests inside the Ancient Town's pedestrian areas also need time to walk out to a spot where cars and buses can legally stop.

Option 2: travel from Hoi An to Da Nang Airport, then fly
Da Nang Airport is approximately 30 km from Hoi An, usually about 45-60 minutes by private car depending on your hotel location and traffic. Private transfers cost approximately VND 250,000-400,000 per vehicle, varying by operator and pickup point.
For a 06:00 flight, plan to leave Hoi An around 03:00 so you reach the airport by approximately 04:00. Adjust this according to your actual hotel location and the airline's check-in requirements.
An evening flight is much easier to organize. You can have breakfast, enjoy part of the morning in Hoi An, check out, and travel to Da Nang in the afternoon.
Flying from Hoi An takes approximately 5-6 hours from your accommodation to central Da Lat when the connections run smoothly. That's still considerably faster than the direct sleeper bus, but don't plan your day as if the entire journey takes only 70 minutes.
Which option is better from Hoi An?
With only two days left for Da Lat, fly whenever the fare and schedule work for you. Families with young children gain the most, since skipping an overnight bus journey makes a noticeable difference.
A direct sleeper bus from Hoi An makes more sense on a three- or four-week trip around Vietnam with no urgent appointments and costs to keep down. You can enjoy your final day in Hoi An, board the bus in the evening, and arrive in Da Lat the following morning.
Leave enough time to recover before a full day of sightseeing, and don't book an activity requiring a 06:00 or 07:00 departure right after an overnight bus scheduled to arrive around the same time.
Is there a train from Da Nang to Da Lat?
No. There is no direct train from Da Nang to Da Lat.
Da Lat Railway Station currently serves the short tourist railway between Da Lat and Trai Mat, covering approximately 6.7-7 km, and the line is no longer connected to Vietnam's main North-South railway network.

You therefore cannot board a train at Da Nang Railway Station and travel directly to Da Lat Railway Station as you could when taking a train from Da Nang to Nha Trang or Ho Chi Minh City.
To work a train journey into the trip, you have to change to a bus in Nha Trang:
Da Nang Railway Station - Nha Trang Railway Station - bus to Da Lat.
Train from Da Nang to Nha Trang
Several example services:
| Train | Departure from Da Nang | Arrival in Nha Trang | Travel time |
|---|---|---|---|
| SE5 | 00:36 | 10:17 | 9 hr 41 min |
| SE9 | 06:03 | 16:52 | 10 hr 49 min |
| SE21 | 07:55 | 19:18 | 11 hr 23 min |
| SE3 | 10:43 | 21:05 | 10 hr 22 min |
Fares for ordinary seat options are approximately VND 426,000-545,000. Sleeper berths and premium compartments could cost considerably more.
From Nha Trang, continue by road to Da Lat via National Highway 27C, which takes around 3 hours 15 minutes to more than 4 hours depending on the bus operator and route.
Some Nha Trang-Da Lat services cost approximately VND 200,000-270,000, with travel times around 4 hours 10 minutes.
Is taking the train worth it?
Only if you enjoy train travel or want to spend time in Nha Trang.
The SE5, for example, arrives in Nha Trang at 10:17, in time for an early-afternoon bus to Da Lat. Even with that connection, the entire trip could take more than 17 hours from the time you leave Da Nang.
The SE9 reaches Nha Trang at 16:52, which is less convenient for daytime bus connections to Da Lat. You may need to stay overnight in Nha Trang.
Once you add the train ticket, bus ticket, and transfer between the railway station and bus pickup point, the total cost may not be lower than taking a direct sleeper bus. Travelers who just want to reach Da Lat efficiently can skip the train.
Driving from Da Nang to Da Lat
Renting or using a private car gives you control over departure times, luggage, and rest stops, but it's a long journey. Plan it around the driver's experience and endurance rather than the shortest time displayed by a navigation app.
A common route heads south from Da Nang through Quang Ngai, the Quy Nhon area, Tuy Hoa, and Khanh Hoa before climbing toward Da Lat. One of the routes into the Central Highlands uses National Highway 27C through Khanh Le Pass. The exact distance depends on the route selected and current traffic restrictions.
Khanh Le Pass includes steep gradients, numerous bends, and occasional fog. During the rainy season, check road conditions and weather reports before driving, particularly if landslides or temporary closures have been reported.

Drive in one day or split the journey?
With two experienced drivers sharing the workload and favorable weather, the journey can be completed in a day, though you should still allow additional time for meals, fuel, rest, and unexpected delays.
A lone driver is better off breaking up the journey or taking substantial rest stops. Avoid pushing through the night and then continuing into the mountains while tired.
Nha Trang makes a convenient stop for some coastal sightseeing along the way, although entering the city may add distance compared with traveling directly toward Da Lat.
Should you ride a motorbike?
A motorbike journey from Da Nang to Da Lat is better suited to experienced long-distance riders who are comfortable with mountain roads and have several days available. Your motorcycle should also be properly maintained before departure.
If you don't hold a valid license for the motorcycle category or aren't experienced on long mountain routes, take a bus or car instead.
International travelers should check whether their driving license is legally recognized in Vietnam before renting and operating a motorbike.
A relaxing holiday doesn't need to become a several-hundred-kilometer endurance ride simply to save money on transport.
Flight vs sleeper bus: which is actually cheaper?
The advertised ticket price is the biggest expense, but it isn't the full cost of the journey.
Scenario 1: one person traveling from Da Nang
Suppose you're staying near central Da Nang and traveling with a small backpack. FUTA's sleeper bus fare is around VND 480,000, and even after adding transport to the terminal and from Da Lat Bus Station to your hotel, the total may remain substantially lower than flying.
A Vietnam Airlines ticket, by comparison, costs approximately VND 1.31 million, plus transport to Da Nang Airport and from Lien Khuong Airport to Da Lat.
For solo travelers, the sleeper bus often provides the largest financial saving.
Scenario 2: two people traveling from Hoi An
Two direct sleeper bus tickets at approximately VND 650,000 each come to about VND 1.3 million, and you may need to add a short transfer to the boarding point.
Flying will generally cost more because you'll need transport from Hoi An to Da Nang Airport, two plane tickets, and an airport transfer into Da Lat. In return, you save many hours and avoid spending the night on a bus, which on a two- or three-day visit to Da Lat may be worth more than the fare difference.
Scenario 3: a family of three or four
Flying has a clearer comfort advantage for families, particularly those traveling with young children or older relatives.
A private airport transfer can be shared among the group, although airline tickets are still priced according to each passenger's age and fare conditions.
The sleeper bus will often be cheaper overall, but check whether the berth arrangement is appropriate for children, whether a separate berth must be purchased, and whether the expected arrival time works with your hotel booking.
With someone in the family prone to motion sickness, the cheapest ticket can turn out to be the wrong one.
Arriving in Da Lat early in the morning: what should you do?
Many overnight buses from Da Nang arrive in Da Lat between approximately 03:00 and 07:00, while most hotels have check-in times in the afternoon, depending on the property. You'll need a plan for the hours between arriving and getting access to your room.
Arriving between 03:00 and 05:00
Your hotel may not be open at that hour, let alone have a room ready for immediate check-in.
Contact the property in advance and ask whether reception is staffed overnight, luggage storage is available, or early check-in can be arranged. Have the hotel confirm any additional charge before you set off.
Booking an extra night is worth considering for anyone who genuinely needs somewhere to sleep immediately after arrival.
Arriving between 06:00 and 08:00
This window is easier to manage. You can leave your bags at your hotel, find breakfast, and explore a nearby part of the city while waiting for check-in. Around Da Lat Market or Xuan Huong Lake, breakfast in the center followed by a relaxed walk is an easy start.
After a long night on a sleeper bus, leave some time to eat and recover. A sunrise cloud-hunting tour departing at 04:30 is not a sensible booking when your bus is scheduled to arrive at 05:30.
Do you need a hotel near the bus station?
Not necessarily, but you should understand how far you'll need to travel after getting off the bus.
Da Lat Bus Station on To Hien Thanh Street isn't directly beside the central market. Some bus operators also use offices outside the Hoa Binh area.

You can take a taxi to your hotel or ask the company whether a shuttle transfer is included. For an advertised free shuttle, ask what area it covers and what hours it runs.
Walking several kilometers uphill with a large suitcase is rarely worth the small saving.
Choose your transport based on your Da Lat itinerary
There isn't one best option for everyone. The right choice depends on how much time you have and what you want to do on your first day.
You have 2 days and 1 night in Da Lat
Prioritize a direct flight, ideally a morning arrival when a suitable one is available, with your Lien Khuong Airport transfer arranged and your luggage left at the hotel. You can be out sightseeing by late morning.
A sleeper bus takes more than half a day plus an overnight journey that may not be especially restful, which is a lot to give up on such a short visit.
You have 3 days and 2 nights
Flying remains the easiest option. On a tighter budget, an overnight departure around 18:00 arriving at approximately 07:00 the next morning is workable for anyone who can sleep on a bus; keep that first day's activities relatively close to the center rather than booking an exhausting full-day excursion.
You have 4-5 days in Da Lat
With more time in the city, the sleeper bus becomes more attractive. Mixing the two works well, too: take an overnight bus in one direction and fly the other.
Compare arrival and departure times first, as these have the biggest impact on how much sightseeing time you actually get.
You're traveling through Vietnam
A direct bus suits a route from Hoi An down through the central coastal provinces to Da Lat, with no trip back to Da Nang Airport.
Travelers who want at least one night in Nha Trang can split the journey into two stages: Da Nang or Hoi An to Nha Trang, then Nha Trang to Da Lat. There is little benefit in rushing between a train and a bus just to use two different types of transport.
Three practical travel plans
Plan A: morning flight from Da Nang to Da Lat
- 03:30-04:00: Arrive at Da Nang Airport, depending on your accommodation and flight requirements.
- 06:00: Depart on Vietnam Airlines VN1955 (reference schedule, may change by season).
- 07:10: Land at Lien Khuong Airport.
- 07:30-08:15: Collect baggage and meet your airport transfer, depending on actual conditions.
- Approximately 08:30-09:15: Reach central Da Lat if the flight is on time and the transfer runs smoothly.
This works best when you've stayed in Da Nang the night before; from Hoi An, allow additional time to reach the airport.
Plan B: overnight sleeper bus from Da Nang
- Morning: Sightseeing or work in Da Nang.
- Midday: Check out and store your luggage.
- Around 17:15: Arrive at Da Nang Central Bus Station, following the bus company's instructions.
- 18:00: Depart on the example FUTA service.
- 07:00 the following morning: Arrive at Da Lat Bus Station according to the published schedule.
- After arrival: Travel to your hotel, leave your luggage, and have breakfast.
This lets you keep most of your final day in Da Nang, but you need to be comfortable spending the night on a bus.
Plan C: direct sleeper bus from Hoi An to Da Lat
- Morning: Have breakfast and explore Hoi An.
- Midday: Check out and leave your luggage at the hotel.
- Around 18:30-19:00: Travel to the designated bus pickup point, depending on the operator's instructions.
- 19:30: Board the example service from the Ton Duc Thang area.
- 08:00 the following morning: Arrive at the Pham Ngu Lao drop-off point in Da Lat if the service runs on schedule.
Travelers staying in Hoi An should look for a suitable Hoi An pickup first, before turning to buses from Da Nang Central Bus Station.
What to check before booking
Check the exact flight date, not just the airline
Airline schedules can change, particularly around seasonal timetable adjustments. Search for the direct DAD-DLI route, then confirm the date, departure time, and ticket conditions on the airline's own website.
Check the nonstop filter whenever a booking platform shows a connecting flight. An indirect itinerary through another city may take longer than expected, particularly with an inconvenient connection.
Check baggage allowances
Buses have their own baggage policies, while airlines impose weight and size limits depending on the fare. Two weeks around Vietnam with a large suitcase means adding checked-baggage charges when comparing flight prices.
For buses, contact the operator in advance if you're carrying a bicycle, large sports equipment, oversized luggage, or several suitcases.
Check passenger names and travel documents
Airline tickets must show accurate passenger details matching the valid identification documents required by the carrier.
International visitors should check the passport or identification requirements for domestic flights and their current immigration status in Vietnam. Taking a domestic flight does not extend a visa or change the terms of entry.
For bus tickets, provide a phone number that the operator can reach in Vietnam or an accepted messaging contact. Some companies call passengers to confirm boarding locations or announce changes to departure times.
Be careful during Central Vietnam's rainy season
Don't schedule an important appointment immediately after the advertised arrival time of a long-distance bus, and leave a reasonable buffer before an international flight or major event the following day.
How far in advance should you book?
For flights, start comparing fares early once your travel dates are reasonably certain, especially around holidays and busy periods. There is no single booking window that guarantees the lowest fare.
For buses, booking ahead of weekends, major holidays, and busy travel periods gives you more choice of sleeper positions. Don't choose solely by price: the right boarding point, arrival time, and berth type matter much more when you'll be spending over 12 hours on the vehicle.
Should you fly or take a bus from Da Nang to Da Lat?
Base your decision on three things: available time, budget, and how well you sleep on buses.
Choose a direct flight for a short visit to Da Lat, a trip with children or older relatives, or simply to avoid spending a night on the road. Look for DAD-DLI flights and arrange transport from Lien Khuong Airport to your accommodation.
Choose an overnight sleeper bus if you want to spend less, have a flexible itinerary, and are comfortable sleeping in a moving vehicle. From Hoi An, look for buses that pick up there before considering a transfer to Da Nang.
Choose the train via Nha Trang if the railway journey itself is part of what you want to experience. It's neither the shortest nor the simplest way to reach Da Lat.
The biggest difference on this route is a flight of approximately 1 hour 10 minutes versus roughly 12-15 hours on a sleeper bus. Yet from hotel to hotel, flying takes around 4-5 hours from Da Nang, and that's the figure worth using when planning your first day in Da Lat.
FAQ
How far is Da Nang from Da Lat?
The road distance is approximately 650-700 km (404-435 miles), depending on the route and exact pickup and drop-off points. The direct air distance between Da Nang Airport and Lien Khuong Airport is approximately 476-478 km (296-297 miles). Don't use the air distance to estimate how long a bus journey will take.
How long is the sleeper bus from Da Nang to Da Lat?
Most sleeper buses take around 12-15 hours, although some services take longer. For example, a FUTA service listed in 2026 leaves Da Nang at 18:00 and arrives in Da Lat at approximately 07:00 the next morning, a 13-hour journey. Arrival times can change because of traffic, weather, and road conditions.
Are there direct flights from Da Nang to Da Lat?
Yes. Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air operate direct flights between Da Nang (DAD) and Da Lat's Lien Khuong Airport (DLI). Flight time is approximately 65-70 minutes. Check availability for your exact date because schedules and frequencies can change.
Can I take a train from Da Nang to Da Lat?
There is no direct train. You can take a train from Da Nang to Nha Trang, then continue to Da Lat by bus or private car. Da Lat Railway Station currently operates the tourist route to Trai Mat and isn't directly connected to Vietnam's North-South railway.
Is it better to take a bus or fly from Hoi An to Da Lat?
Take a direct sleeper bus from Hoi An if you want to save money and avoid changing vehicles. The journey usually takes approximately 12-15 hours. For a faster trip, travel 45-60 minutes by car to Da Nang Airport and take a direct flight to Lien Khuong. Allow approximately 5-6 hours in total from your accommodation in Hoi An to central Da Lat when connections run smoothly.
